Every Indian citizen who belongs to a middle or lower-class family is struggling to build his/her own house but canโt, due to their weak economic condition. To overcome this situation, the government of India launched a scheme which is PM Awas Yojana. The previous name of this scheme was Indira Awas Yojana.
The scheme is divided into two parts. The first one is for the citizens who are below the poverty line and this part of the scheme is named PM Awas Yojana Gramin. While the second one is for the citizens who belong to a city and canโt afford to build their own house and this part of the scheme is named PM Awas Yojana Urban.

The government extended the last date of PMAY Urban to December 31, 2024, but they didn’t extend the last date of the CLSS category.
If you belong to a village area, you can apply in the PM Awas Yojana Gramin, or if you belong to a city, you need to apply in the PM Awas Yojana Urban. The latest update about pmay urban guidelines is that the government of India extend the last date of registration. Now the latest date of registration is 31 December 2024.

Options to Choose while Applying Online For PMAY Urban Geotagging
The government of India provides 4 major options to the applicants while applying for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban. Each Option has different benefits and subsidy amounts. The applicant should choose the one which suits them. Read and analyze which option suits you before applying for the PMAY Urban Scheme.
1. โIn-situโ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR):
This option is for the beneficiaries who are living in the township of a city and donโt have any pucca house. In this scheme, the government will construct apartments on the land of the township areas with the help of private companies.
Those beneficiaries whoโll get apartments on behalf of this scheme, then theyโll get 1 lakh INR from Kendra Sarkar and 75,000 from Rajya Sarkar. But, the beneficiaries need to pay the remaining amount for the apartment. This scheme is already started in Dehli, Gujarat states.
2. Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS):
This option is for the beneficiaries who want to build their house on their own land. In this scheme, if you belong to one of these categories (EWS/LIG/MIG-01/MIG-02) then the government will provide a loan on a subsidized amount. The loan amount for EWS (Economical Weaker Section) and LIG (Lower Income Group) will be 6,00,000 INR along with interest subsidies of 6.5%.

The loan amount for MIG-01 (Middle Income Group-01) and MIG-02 (Middle Income Group-02) will be 9,00,000 and 12,00,000 INR, along with interest subsidies of 4% and 3%. The house measurements are different in all 4 categories, EWS = 30 sqm, LIG= 60 sqm, MIG-01 = 160 sqm, and MIG-02 = 200 sqm.
3. Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP):
This option is for the beneficiaries who belong to EWS (Economically Weaker Section). These beneficiaries will get all the benefits of the AHP scheme. PM Awas Yojana Urban scheme is almost the same as the ISSR scheme. The government will make apartments with the help of private companies and 35% of houses are reserved for the EWS beneficiaries.
If you want to take the benefits of this scheme then Kendra Sarkar will provide you an amount of 1,00,000 INR and Rajya Sarkar will provide you an amount of 50,000 INR, but the remaining amount of the apartment will be on your end. The beneficiaries will get an apartment of 30 sqm along with electricity and water supply.
4. Beneficiary-led Individual Construction/Enhancements (BLC):
This option is also for the beneficiaries who belong to the EWS category of a city. The government will provide them with an amount of 3,68,000 INR to build their own house. They just need to have their own land in order to take benefits of this scheme.
If you own land on a plain area, then the government will give you an amount of 368,000 INR, in which the central government will pay you 150,000 INR and the State government will pay you 193,000 INR. You just need to pay the remaining 25,000 INR
If you own land in a hilly area, then the central government will give you an amount of 441,000 INR, in which the central government will pay you 150,000 INR and the state government will pay you 266,000 INR.
you just need to pay the remaining 25,000 INR. weโre giving you the example of West Bengal. The amount of building a house can differ in Bihar or any other state but the procedure and number of installments will be the same.
How to Apply Online For Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban
Now that youโre well aware of all the options of PMAY Urban and if youโve selected your category, then let’s move to the online application process, which is very easy to execute. For the application process, youโve got 3 options.
First, you can apply online. Second, you can apply by visiting any government bank along with all of PM Awas Yojana Urban required documents. Third, you can apply by visiting your near CSC center. Letโs talk about the online process of application.
For the online application process, visit the official website of PMAY Urban and click on the Citizen Assessment which is given in the header menu. A drop-down menu will open, and in that menu, you need to select the Apply Online option.
When you do that, 4 major options will appear that weโve discussed above. Select an option that suits you and the system will direct you to another page where you need to provide your aadhar card number and name.
Provide the required details and donโt forget to tick mark the option before clicking on the check option. After that, a Registration form will appear on your screen that you need to fill out, in order to complete the registration process for PM Awas Yojana Urban.
In that form, you need to provide your residential details, complete address, the address of your construction area, personal information, family details, caste details, bank account details, and work details.
While submitting the form, make sure your providing information is correct. Otherwise, your form will be rejected. After providing the correct information, donโt forget to tick mark the terms and condition option before clicking on the save button. When you do that, a pop-up message will appear on your screen along with your assessment ID. Note down that ID to track your application.
Congrats! Your application process for PMAY Urban has been completed. Now the government will verify your submitted documents and also visit your construction area. After complete verification, the government will transfer funds to your bank account for the construction of your own pucca house. The funds will transfer to your bank account in 3 complete installments.
How to Check Application Status of PMAY Urban
- Visit the official website of PMAY Urban and click on the citizen Assessment option given in the header menu.
- After that, youโll see an option name Track your Assessment Status, click on that option.
- A new page will open and the system will ask you to provide your Assessment ID. Enter the Assessment ID which you copied earlier, enter your mobile number, and click on the submit button.
- After clicking on the submit button, your PMAY Urban application status will appear on your screen.
- You can also edit your application form in case of any mistakes, and take a pdf print of your registration or application form if you want to apply offline.
3 Simple Steps to Check New List of PMAY Urban Online
Step-01:
Visit the official website of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban and click on the Search Beneficiary option which is given in the header menu.
Step-02:
A new window will open and the system will ask you to provide your aadhar number. Provide the required details and click on the Show option.
Step-03:
When you click on the Show option, the beneficiary details with appear on your screen in a form of a table. That means, your name is found in the PMAY Urban New List.
PMAY Urban Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant or applicantโs family doesnโt own a house in the whole country.
- If the applicant or applicantโs family has participated and taken benefits of any housing scheme previously then they wonโt be able to participate in the PM Awas Yojana Scheme.
- The applicant must belong to one of the above mention categories.
- The applicant can only get home-loan from government banks.
- Applicant must have his own aadhar card.
- The subsidy amount is also available for owning a house, renovating, and constructing additional rooms, including bathrooms, kitchens, etc.
- The beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban will be a husband, wife, and unmarried girl/guy.
- The beneficiary or beneficiaries family should not own a pucca house across India.
- The location of your property should fall under the permitted town and their nearby plain areas.
Documents Required for PMAY U
In order to apply for PM Awas Yojana Urban, there are two types of categories that the government made for the applicants. One is for the salaried person, and the other one is for the self-employed/business person. A list of documents is given below for both categories. Read and gather all the required documents that are mandatory, in order to apply for PMAY Urban.
A: Salaried Employee

PMAY Urban Categories
The Government of India has divided the citizens into 4 major categories based on their annual income. So you must fall under one of the mentioned categories in order to take the benefits of PM Awas Yojana Urban. You need to select your category because your category name will help you in the registration process.

1. PM Awas Yojana EWS
If you fell into this category, your annual income must be between 0 to 3,00,000 INR. In this category, if you want to purchase a property then women’s ownership is mandatory, but if youโve got a property and you want to do some kind of construction on it like building a toilet or constructing an extra room, then womenโs ownership is not mandatory.
2. PM Awas Yojana LIG
If you fell into this category, your annual income must be between 3,00,000 to 6,00,000 INR. In this category, if you want to purchase a property then women’s ownership is mandatory, but if youโve got a property and you want to do some kind of construction on it like building a toilet or constructing an extra room, then womenโs ownership is not mandatory.
3. PM Awas Yojana MIG-01
If you fell into this category, your annual income must be between 6,00,000 to 12,00,000 INR. in this category, if you want to purchase a property or want to do construction of your land then womenโs ownership is not mandatory in both cases.
4. PM Awas Yojana MIG-02
If you fell into this category, your annual income must be between 12,00,000 to 18,00,000 INR. in this category, if you want to purchase a property or want to do construction of your land then womenโs ownership is not mandatory in both cases.
PMAY Urban Benefits
EWS (Economically Weaker Section)
If anyone gets fits into this category, then the government will provide him/her with a loan to build a pucca house. The amount of the loan will be 6,00,000 INR. As we all know, banks always take an interest on a provided loan.
The interest on the provided loan will be 9.5%, so the government of India will give you a subsidy on that loan, and the PMAY subsidy Status will be 6.5%. So, you just need to pay 3% interest on that loan, and your PMAY Urban subsidy amount will be 2,67,000 INR. The max carpeted area will be 30 sqm of your house.
LIG (Lower Income Group)
If anyone gets fits into this category, then the government will provide him/her with a loan to build a pucca house. The amount of the loan will be 6,00,000 INR. As we all know, banks always take an interest on a provided loan.
The interest on the provided loan will be 9.5%, so the government of India will give you a subsidy on that loan, and that will be 6.5%. So, you just need to pay 3% interest on that loan, and your PMAY Urban subsidy amount will be 2,67,000 INR. The max carpeted area will be 60 sqm of your house.
MIG-1 (Middle-Income Group 1)

If anyone gets fits into this category, then the government will provide him/her with a loan to build a pucca house. The amount of the loan will be 12,00,000 INR. As we all know, banks always take an interest on a provided loan.
The interest on the provided loan will be 9.5%, so the government of India will give you a subsidy on that loan, and that will be 3%. So, you just need to pay 3% interest on that loan, and your PMAY Urban subsidy amount will be 2,30,000 INR. The max carpeted area will be 200 sqm of your house.
PMAY Urban New Update
In the budget 2022-23, the government allotted a budget for PM Awas Yojana Urban and Gramin because, in recent months, the process of delivering awas to eligible persons was very slow. That’s why the government now allotted a new budget for both urban and Gramin citizens. Shri Narendra Modi Ji increases the 60% budget for the scheme.
Those who’ve applied for the scheme recently, they’ll get payments from the government. The process of distribution of payments has been started since April so citizens who didn’t get Awas yet, they’ll get the amount soon. The government will properly manage DPR now and the government will deposit the amount to the beneficiary’s account.
